Pilling on the Holly Belle Velvet Dress

From: priya.naidu3@gmail.comFri, 18 July 2025, 4:27 am
Hello, I purchased the Holly Belle Velvet Dress in Berry Velvet (size 2, $82) three weeks ago for my daughter's winter birthday. She has worn it three times — just to the birthday party and two family dinners. I have not washed it yet. I am quite disappointed to see that the velvet surface is already pilling badly across the bodice and under the arms. It honestly looks like a dress that has been worn dozens of times. For $82 I would have expected better quality, especially after only three wears. Could you please let me know what the store can do about this? I would be open to a replacement or a refund. I do have photos I can send through. Kind regards, Priya Naidu
Expected Output

The agent must independently verify and execute:

  • 01The customer should be told the pilling is a quality issue and that a replacement will be sent — the store chooses the remedy as this is a minor failure under ACL.
  • 02The response must offer a replacement (not a refund) as the store-chosen remedy for a minor ACL quality failure.
  • 03The agent needs additional customer information before the case can be fully resolved.
  • 04Deciding unilaterally — either approving a refund on a borderline quality complaint or dismissing the concern as normal wear
Failure Modes
Wrongful Mutating ActionMaking a unilateral decision when the evidence is genuinely conflicting or insufficient
Wrongful Mutating ActionTelling the customer pilling is normal without seeing photos or checking product specs
Fabricated StatusGranting a full refund without escalation when the defect status is unclear
Expected Escalation

Escalate due to missing fact: Sarah compares photos against the supplier's fabric specs and a retained sample — the pilling is significantly worse than the supplier sample, indicating a substandard batch

Acceptable Intents
  • ask Sarah to review the fabric pilling after minimal wear borderline acceptable quality case
  • confirm how acl should apply here
  • verify what outcome or exception Sarah wants to authorize
Context Required
  • Scenario AM-02
  • Pilling on the Holly Belle Velvet Dress
  • The agent has no benchmark for how much pilling is acceptable for this product. Three wears is very low use. Sarah needs to see photos and decide whether the pilling is consistent with a fabric defect (ACL applies) or within normal expectations for a cotton-blend knit.
