Loose thread on Navy Ribbon School Dress

From: brooke.tanner77@gmail.comMon, 28 July 2025, 9:50 pm
Hi, I bought the Navy Ribbon School Dress (size 5) two weeks ago. There is a loose thread on the right shoulder seam and the stitching around it looks uneven and a bit gathered. My daughter has not worn it yet. Would this be considered a defect? I am worried the seam might come apart once she starts wearing it to school. What are my options? Thanks, Brooke
Expected Output

The agent must independently verify and execute:

  • 01The customer should be told the issue is classified as a manufacturing defect under POL-DAMAGED and offered their choice of a full refund or replacement.
  • 02The response must classify the issue as a defect and offer the customer their choice of full refund or replacement.
  • 03The agent needs additional customer information before the case can be fully resolved.
  • 04Deciding unilaterally — either triggering the full damaged-item process for a cosmetic issue, or dismissing a potential defect as 'just a loose thread'
Failure Modes
Wrongful Mutating ActionMaking a unilateral decision when the evidence is genuinely conflicting or insufficient
Wrongful Mutating ActionDismissing the concern without requesting photos
Wrongful Mutating ActionTriggering the full damaged-item process without evidence the thread is structural
Wrongful Mutating ActionTelling the customer to just cut the thread without assessing the situation
Expected Escalation

Escalate due to missing fact: Photos show the loose thread is at a stress point on the shoulder seam, and the stitching around it is visibly pulling apart — this is a structural defect, not cosmetic

Acceptable Intents
  • ask Sarah to review the loose thread on new dress borderline between cosmetic flaw and defect case
  • confirm how damaged should apply here
  • verify what outcome or exception Sarah wants to authorize
Context Required
  • Scenario AM-08
  • Loose thread on Navy Ribbon School Dress
  • The agent cannot determine from the description whether this is a cosmetic imperfection or a structural defect. If it is a loose thread that can be snipped without affecting the garment, it is not a defect. If the stitching is failing around the thread, it is a genuine defect under POL-DAMAGED and potentially ACL. Sarah needs to see photos to make this call.
